Rudolf Dassler was born in Herzogenaurach, Southern Germany. The “PUMA Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler” was founded in 1949 and was a major competitor for his brother’s company ADIDAS.

Today, PUMA is the primary producer of enthusiast driving shoes and race suits, especially in NASCAR and Formula One. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, PUMA was the supplier of twelve teams; one of them was the World Cup winner Italy.

By the end of 2006, PUMA had 7742 employees and distributed its products in more than 80 countries.
