Grace, Princess of Monaco, was born in Philadelphia to Jack Kelly and a German American. The family played a prominent role in Philadelphia, her father being a self-made millionaire and triple gold-medal-winning Olympic sculler.

Kelly began her career in Hollywood, starring in “Fourteen Hours” (1951) and “High Noon” (1952) in a supporting role. She starred in three of Alfred Hitchcock's films, “Dial M for Murder,” “Rear Window,” and “To Catch a Thief.” Her part in “Mogambo” (1953) earned Kelly an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 1955, she won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in “The Country Girl”, which also starred Bing Crosby. Kelly's last film remains “High Society” with Frank Sinatra.

Kelly was known for her stately beauty and reserve. She starred in eleven motion pictures before abandoning a Hollywood career in 1956 to marry Rainier III, prince de Monaco, whom she had met in Cannes in 1955. With their wedding in 1956, Kelly's official title became, „Her Serene Highness the Princess of Monaco.“ Grace Kelly died tragically at age 52 when her car crashed after she had suffered a stroke while driving.
